Sips & Stories
Book Summary:
Sandwich by Catherine Newman is a novel about a family's annual Cape Cod vacation, focusing on the protagonist, Rocky, who is "sandwiched" between her aging parents and her grown children. The story explores themes of family, love, aging, grief, and regret, as Rocky navigates the messy realities of her life, including a past abortion, while dealing with menopause and family secrets during the week-long trip. The book contrasts the idealized vacation with the unglamorous, messy reality of family life, highlighting the emotional and physical changes of middle age.
