The Wishing Game
by Meg Shaffer

This month I am recommending our Sips & Stories Bookclub selection "The Wishing Game" by Meg Shaffer.  This book centers around a beloved, yet reclusive, children's author who has not released a book in years.  He suddenly reappears from a six year hiatus not only with a new book, but also with a generous prize offering for the reader who can solve a series of riddles on his private island in Maine.  Four people, lifelong fans of the author, find themselves vying for the prize; a prize that will forever change their lives in positive ways if they are declared the winner.  This book does a beautiful job focusing on themes such as grief, facing fears, and finding empathy for others.  I fell in love with every character in the book and wanted everyone on the island to win the prize.  Yet there is only one winner...and who will it be?  Feel free to pick up a copy of the book at the store and join us Tuesday 5/28/24 at 7:00 pm for the Sips & Stories Bookclub to discuss this heartwarming story!

Rock Paper Scissors
by Alice Feeney

This month, I am recommending Rock Paper Scissors by Alice Feeney.  It is semester exam time, but I am finding every excuse I can to sneak in a few pages of reading each day.  This book follows a married couple who are going through a rough patch after ten years of marriage.  When they "win" a weekend getaway to Scotland, they are hoping the time alone in nature will be exactly what they need to revive their marriage and celebrate their anniversary.  Once they arrive in Scotland, not only do they find their marriage unraveling at a lightning speed, but they also realize their lives are in terrible danger.  As the book progresses, it becomes obvious that the couple did not "win" this trip; instead they were intentionally brought to Scotland for sinister reasons.  I can't wait to continue reading this book once exams are over!

A Good Girl's Guide to Murder
by Holly Jackson

This thriller/mystery revolves around a girl  trying to figure out the disappearance of a classmate.  I suggest this book because there are so many plot twists.  It kept me hooked and craving more information!  Every page kept me on my feet more than any other book I have read.  I highly recommend checking out this novel.

The Kiss Quotient
by Helen Hoang

Stella Lane thinks math is the only thing that unites the universe. She comes up with algorithms to predict customer purchases—a job that has given her more money than she knows what to do with, and way less experience in the dating department than the average thirty-year-old.

It doesn't help that Stella has Asperger's and French kissing reminds her of a shark getting its teeth cleaned by pilot fish. Her conclusion: she needs lots of practice—with a professional. Which is why she hires escort Michael Phan. The Vietnamese and Swedish stunner can't afford to turn down Stella's offer, and agrees to help her check off all the boxes on her lesson plan—from foreplay to more-than-missionary position...

Before long, Stella not only learns to appreciate his kisses, but to crave all the other things he's making her feel. Soon, their no-nonsense partnership starts making a strange kind of sense. And the pattern that emerges will convince Stella that love is the best kind of logic...
